West Dean Flints

West Dean Flints is a sculptural grouping of ceramic forms inspired by flint shards found in the buildings and streams of the estate. It explores traces of what is left behind, fragments shaped by both human and natural forces. Surfaces range from sharp, glossy facets to soft, chalk-like matt whites, using glazes rich in the same silica that forms flint. The work reflects how materials are shaped, buried, and gradually revealed over time. The individual elements of the sculpture can be handled and rearranged, suggesting shifting landscapes and the marks left by unknown hands.
